Match Trivia
About 5000 spectators were present at Parkhead last night when the Rangers appeared against the home team in the complimentary match for the benefit of D McArthur, the veteran Celtic custodian. Play throughout was very hard, both teams infusing more vigour and earnestness into their work than the nature of the match led one to anticipate. No goals were scored in the first half, although the Celtic aided by the wind, had the bigger share of the attack. Several splendid shots were sent in to Dickie, but the latter was in his finest form, and simply defied defeat. The Rangers forwards did not move with much precision, and were much less deadly in front of goal than the Celtic quintets. Some ten minutes of the second half had gone when a smart rush by the Rangers ended in Sharp sending the ball out of McArthurs reach into the net. The Celtic made great efforts to draw level, but as the game progressed the Rangers improved, and their defence was rarely altogether beaten. While very smart near goal, the Celtic front line occasionally shot poorly, although on the whole their final efforts had plenty of sting. Nearing the close some bad feeling crept in, and Hodge and Dickie came to loggerheads. The Rangers defence continued very sound, and just when everybody thought the Light Blues had won the Celtic burst away from their opponents goal, and Hodge succeeded in equalising the scores. The goal was well deserved, and a draw one goal each give a very fair index of the strength of the respective sides. The outstanding feature of the match were the brilliant goalkeeping of Dickie on the one side, and the fast effective dashes on the part of Quinn for the Celtic. In his tussles with N Smith Quinn undoubtedly showed great daring and resource. The game was one of two 35s
