Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park last night before about 6000 spectators. Both teams were strongly represented, and as the fixture is an annual one, the Rangers having suffered an overwhelming defeat at Birmingham last season, the game was expected to be a stubborn one. The Rangers had to face wind and sun in the first half, but laying with great energy and determination, they more than held their own, and several times should have scored, but their shooting was most erratic. Templeton and Wheldon made a splendid wing for the Villa, but sturdy defence by the Rangers backs kept them out. Early in the second period the Rangers forced the pace, but their anxiety to score spoiled many rare chances, Hamilton and Hyslop hanging too long on the ball ere letting drive. George was in splendid form, and saved some good shots from Graham, McPherson and Neil, and was lucky one or twice in keeping his lines clear. Templeton got away with a clear run, but inside the penalty line he was tripped by Crawford, but Dickie saved the penalty kick. Up to the close play was very even, but no scoring took place. Result – A draw no goals
