Match Trivia

This friendly match was played at Hyde Road, before a good attendance of spectators. Nichol started, and the home players were the first to attack, and Smith and Drummond very soon had to protect their goal. After a while, however the Rangers speedily ran to the other end, and Wilkie hand Hamilton both tried shots which Chappell cleverly saved. Tonge and Scotson, on the City right wing, showed very nice passing, Scotson in particular doing some grand work. Again however the Rangers forged ahead, and after Chappell had kept out some very good attempts he was eventually beaten by Hamilton, the City defenders claiming that he was offside, but the goal was disallowed. Hyslop next put in a run, and then shot at goal, but Chappell threw himself across the goal, and just saved the ball from going into the net by giving a corner kick. This was of no use to the Rangers, and the interval arrived soon afterwards, with the score – Glasgow Rangers one goal; Manchester City none.
