Match Trivia

Another draw was recorded yesterday by the Rangers in the closing match of their Easter tour of Leicester, in which City Dr Reid a once prominent ‘Light Blue’ back has been located for several years. The Rangers, it will be remembered, left Glasgow last Thursday. The following day they scored a notable victory over Blackburn Rovers by five goals to one. The same evening the partly left Lancashire for the Metropolis, and put up at the Caledonian Hotel. On Saturday they lost to Millwall Athletic by one to nothing, and on Monday they drew with Chatham – three goals each. The return journey was commenced yesterday morning, and the journey was broken to permit of the engagement taking place with Leicester Fosse, the second fixture by the way that has taken place. The match took place in delightful weather before 6000 spectators. The Rangers won the toss and Fosse faced a brilliant sun. The visitors began the pressing, but the Fosse attacked by Freebairn on the right. Then Dickie saved a grand shot from Darrell on the left wing, and this was followed by the Rangers forcing matters. Gibson sent in, but the whistle had sounded for an infringement. A grand shot by Alex Smith was finely saved and half-time came with no scoring. After the Fosse had made a strong attack, the Rangers shot twice in succession. The home team forced two corners, and Bamford headed through just inside. Play became much faster, Miller shooting and Thraves saving well. Dickie then saved twice in rapid succession and the Rangers had a free kick close in, but nothing resulted. Hyslop missed scoring from a penalty kick, and then Gibson equalised from a free kick, the match thus ending in a draw – one goal each.
