Match Trivia
An evening fixture between these teams came off last night at Ibrox Park, Govan, The night was cold, which no doubt accounted for the miserable attendance scarcely 1000 spectators being present. Losing the toss the Rangers kicked off against a pretty strong breeze and with the sun in their eyes. The Saints were early in evidence, and McBlain sent in a scorcher, which Haddow kept out at the expense of a corner. Occasionally the Rangers broke away Boyd and Barker being conspicuous, but they seldom got past either McGachney or Hay. From a foul near goal the Saints might have scored, but Crawford got the danger averted. Another corner for the Saints came to nothing. Halftime result – A draw, no scoring. On resuming the Saints were first to show the way, but Drummond and Crawford were able to meet the call. Then the Rangers came away, and Mackay tried a shot, but the ball went over the bar. A little later King had a try, but the Saints goalkeeper was on the alert, and cleared. A rush by the St Mirren right ended in N Gibson conceding a corner, which Taylor placed well. A scrimmage ensured, but W Gibson ultimately got the ball away. Shortly after a lovely run by Richardson nearly had the desired effect, but his shot struck the post and glanced behind. Then the Rangers came away, and Mackay should have scored from a corner, but he missed it. The game throughout was tame and uninteresting. Result – A draw, no scoring.
