Match Trivia
Fully 3000 spectators were present at Ibrox Park, Govan last night to witness the meeting of the Scotch and English cup-holders. The match also closed the intercourse between the two countries this season. Losing the toss the Rangers kicked off against wind and sun. Notts were first to show, but Neil returned, and after some clever passing H McCreadie scored the first goal for the Rangers with a lovely shot. From the centre kick Notts visited Haddow, but Daft shot behind. The Rangers again attacked and got a corner, but Osborne cleared. Gray initiated a run for the Rangers, and getting past the English backs, McPherson added a second goal. Play after this was very even, each goal being visited in turn. The Rangers had another corner, but it also proved fruitless. Before crossing over Notts came away with a rush, and Logan scored their first goal with a swift shot. A minute later Blyth had a grand shot from halfback, but Toone saved. Halftime result – Rangers 2 goals: Notts County 1 goal. The second portion of the game began slowly, but the Rangers gradually drew away, and Toone had to save a scorcher form McPherson. Just after this Harper and Osborne each gave away corners for safety. Both were fruitless. At last from a splendid return by Drummond, Gray got off with a clear field. He shot the ball through. Three goals for Rangers. H McCreadie had a chance to score, but he seemed to have had enough, and missed what was an easy thing. Notts tried hard to improve their position, but they were met by a stubborn defence. The game was a good one and well contested, but the Rangers held the upper hand throughout. No further scoring took place. Result – Rangers 3 goals: Notts County 1 goal.
