Played at Greenock, the local team was pretty strong, but there was a large number of the visitor’s usual team absent. The visitors kicked off, and succeeded in registering the first goal when the game was but five minutes old. From a corner Morton almost scored, but McKenzie at goal was all there. Home players were rather unfortunate at strangers end. Fouls against Morton were frequent. Dick scored a lovely goal for Morton. The ball travelled rapidly from goal to goal, until at length Oswald of Morton got possession and outcome of a beautiful shot, registered a second goal and equalised. Shortly afterwards Rangers gave Morton backs some trouble, but eventually the leather was transferred to the visitors territory, where strenuous efforts were made to score, but without result. Halftime score – Morton 2: Rangers 2. On resuming the Rangers with the assistance of a string breeze, endeavoured to force the pace, and irritated the home backs considerably. Various attempts were made to score, two corners being unavailing. The left wing of the Rangers now got possession, and Barker put on a third point for his team. A foul near the opposing goal was ultimately cleared, and play transferred to midfield. Towards the close the Rangers again scored. Result – Rangers 4 goals: Morton 2 goals.
