Match Trivia

Played on the Linthorpe road Ground, Middlesbrough on Monday before about 1000 spectators. Middlesbrough kicked off, and had the best of matters for some time, and McCabe getting smartly up passed to Blythe, who succeeded in eluding the custodian and drew first blood for the homesters. The visitors next played up and J McPherson equalised. Played ruled pretty much in the home territory, and D McPherson was not long in notching the second and third points for Rangers team. The Rangers were now forced back steadily, and Cronshaw sent in a clinker, which McKenzie failing to negotiate scored the second goal for the homesters. Play of a give and take character followed, after which Barker ended a splendid run down the field by scoring the fourth goal for the visitors. Just before the halftime whistle blew the visitors again got the ball through, but were ruled offside. On resuming, the homesters attacked with dash and determination, and McCabe managed to score their third goal, Black shortly afterwards adding the fourth. The visitors next came to the front and Kerr obtained their fifth goal, but the home lads were soon at it again and rushing the ball past McKenzie equalised. Once more the Rangers visited the home territory, and after some tricky passing a low swift shot by McCreadie notched their sixth point. After an exciting and sustained succession of rushes on McKenzie position the visitors citadel was carried by Blythe, amid loud applause, and the game ended – Middlesbrough 6 goals: Rangers 6 goals.
