Match Trivia

This is to certify Rangers were in one of those kind of moods – sharp, incisive as a surgeon’s knife, and that Falkirk are nobody’s stooges. They stuck it out well, made this game a whirlwind where it might have been a breeze. Brockville lot have their obvious faults, but the making of a sound team is there. Particularly impressive were Rice and Murray. They kept punching away, now defending, now attacking. The two visiting backs also did their bit. Englishman Scrimshaw a trifle slow. The only other thing wrong with the defence was Roughhead’s tendency for flustered kicking. But when we get the length of the forwards we fall away. Stewart despite his goals was as subtle as a kick in the teeth. Widdowfield wandered with no seeming purpose. Campbell was their bright man. First half Rangers had to do a lot of striving, but once they got on top they marched relentlessly on. Defence you can mark up as excellent, since the directness of the Falkirk attack was apple pie for them. In front Venters did the organising. He sped along, shouted instructions, and deployed his troops like a panzer commander. He was just that little bit ahead of the rest, and they were all good
