Match Trivia

It goes on the record as a Rangers win. They’re getting the best of the bargain considering their display. Two scrappy goals, and the fact that Third played the second half without keeper McAffrey. First half was forty-five minutes of cut and run and the feeling that if any side got a goal, it would be a fluke. Then, just after the interval, Rangers went ahead, and Thirds faded out. Charlie Johnstone shot, keeper McAffrey palmed out, Johnstone kept on, this time the goalie had to dive at his feet. The ball spun to Gillick, who hurried it into the net. McAffrey injured his finger in the dive, and Park took over the jersey. Not long afterwards cane the blow. Venters was going through when Rennie tackled him from behind. A poor, weak imitation of a penalty – but Symon converted. Pat Third for fighting after this, an extra helping to Watson, a real hero, and the two keepers, but full-backs were very ordinary, and Stevenson attempted stuff he hadn’t the strength for. In front, the Cathkin mob was never in it. Thanks, Connor, for trying. Rangers defence wasn’t troubled. Had my suspicions Symon and Woodburn wouldn’t have stood hard pressure. But this fellow Little! Quiet, but as bright as a new pin. Forwards scurried like ants and had as much to show for it. Johnstone didn’t seem fit. The only constructive member was Gillick
