Match Trivia
Falkirk have a snarl at the fates. Half backs Symon and Bolt got the first two goals almost by the same methods. They shot from well out. Symons was a free kick. With the keeper well in sight, didnt both balls screw into the net off Falkirks defenders! Yes, hard luck. Both counts came at a time when the Bairns were doing their darnedest to stem an all-powerful Rangers machine and they just knocked all the heart out of them. But having mentioned this much, let me go on and say Rangers were tops. In skilful soccer, loads of graft, they were heads and shoulders above their opponents. First half they reached the peak. Falkirk were thrown right back. With the exception of a few lightning darts by Dawson and Keyes play raged around McKie. Smith was the artful dodger, Cunningham hardly a match for him. In possession, the big centre was convoyed with a group of watchers. And more menace came from the wings, where Gillick and Johnstone kept prancing along to their hearts delight. A second-half revival by Falkirk failed to materialise, despite a switch among the forwards. Goals from Smith and Gillick the wingers effort was a real opportunists served to emphasise Rangers complete grip. Bolt again impressed as the finest half afield, Symon coming as shade behind. The Ibrox defence had an easy afternoon, but marks go to McKie, Graham and Cummings for taking such a gruelling early on
