Match Trivia
An extraordinarily soft goal scored by Alan Morton five minutes after the kick-off gave Rangers the points against Third Lanark at Cathkin. A foul against Third Lanark just a yard outside the penalty line was taken by Morton, who lobbed the ball high into the goalmouth. Brownlie made no effect to save, and the wind curled the ball right under the bar. The goalkeeper was certainly to blame, but his view seemed to be obscured by McCormack. Right through the game Rangers never showed any superiority, and Third Lanark might easily have drawn the match had their luck been in. Against the breeze in the first half Third Lanark backs were fluky, but Rangers carried only one shot, and that was Henderson, from whom Brownlie had to save very often. Findlay, Third Lanark’s new forward, showed up well, especially in the second half, when he and Allan were prominent. There was a staleness about the play of both teams, due, no doubt, to the heavy midweek fixtures. Orr met with a nasty head injury in a collision with Henderson in the middle of the second half, which necessitated the attention of both Third’s and Rangers’ trainers, but he recovered and finished strongly. The match was the best attended this season, something near 30,000 being present
