We were all fairly glad when this game finished, for in the second half it was positively boring at times. Rangers never looked like losing after the first half hour. Their first goal was scored in six minutes by Smith, the second just on the interval from a free kick by Simpson, the centre-halfs low drive being deflected away from Cormack by a defender. But believe it or not, if Third Lanark had been two goals up at half-time instead of Rangers no one could have grumbled about any injustice. The Cathkin boys were possessed of a spirit of adventure, and some clever moves by their inside men quite often saw the Rangers defence opened wide. But Third could not finish, although Gallacher was most unfortunate to be cheated of a couple of goals, when he hit a hard one against the upright, and later when Simpson accidentally got in the way. On each occasion Dawson was beaten. The best goal of the game was Gillicks, after only three minutes of the second half had gone. Brown played the sixth forward stuff, was beaten in a tackle, but McPhail, following up got possession, and slipped it to Gillick who came cutting in and shot first time, low down, well out of Cormacks reach. Thirds goal was scored by Kennedy twenty-four minutes from time, the centre-forward heading home a Howe cross that was bot too well judged by Dawson. It was only at spasmodic intervals that the game produced anything of a lively nature, and to me most interest lay in the repeated duels between Carabine and Gillick, and I gave the medal to the Cathkin back. Rangers experimental right wing will not do. Macaulay was never really happy, and there was little of the cleverness about his play that put him on a pedestal early in the season. Smith provided some enjoyable touches, and McPhail, playing well, shot better than Ive seen him in some games this season. The others were all good enough for the task on hand without being unduly impressive
