Match Trivia
A fine day for the curlers, say you! It wasnt football weather and there is no use saying it was a great game at Ibrox, though it was as good as anyone could expect under the circumstances. Rangers held a winning advantage at half-back and forward. If the Fifers had possessed a man in front who could take a chance as Smith took his, they might have made a much closer game of it. Easily their best raider was Hamill, who made ground quickly and got the ball into the centre like a workman. Armstrong took his goal as smartly as anyone could have done, and he would have done even better if Murray and Venters had played more to him. Cowdens defence gave really nothing away, and that, considering the necessary rearrangement caused by our friend the flu, was to their credit. The one mistake Crosskey made was in allowing himself to be charged by Smith when in possession of the ball. This lost the second goal. McDonald did very well as a centre-half, but he had a difficult customer to watch in Smith. Brown and Meiklejohn served their forwards well, and McDonald was usually where he was most required, which is sound anticipation. No one did better in front than Craig, who knew how to work the carnaptious ball. Archibald excelled in that respect; too even if a few of his centres went wide, he was properly provided by Marshall, who, however, could not get his shots on the target. It was a nice movement began by Meiklejohn and shared in by Marshall and Archibald which led to Smith opening the scoring after 17 minutes the centre trapping the ball from Archibalds perfect centre and shooting low and hard into the net. Cowdenbeath put up a splendid resistance right to the interval, which was within two minutes of being called when Crosskey held a shot from Craig and was charged over the line by Smith. When Armstrong headed one for the Fifers seven minutes after the restart Rangers went back a bit in general play, but coming again Smith on the turn, shot a bonnie goal, and after half-an-hour Fleming got the fourth after good work by Craig, who let me tell you, was very much in the game. Cowdenbeath fought it out no white feather and were unlucky not to score at least one more
