Match Trivia
Although showing a sheaf of changes, including a brand new half-back line, Meiklejohn at inside right to Main and McAulay and Ra Hamilton at back in that order. Rangers were good enough to best Hamilton academicals at Ibrox by a goal, scored by Meiklejohn about a minute after the interval. On the scoring chances going, the winners might easily have won by a bigger score. The Academicals also had chances, but few by comparison. It was a sort of end-of-the season game, but we saw some quite nice movements on both sides, chiefly from McPhail and Morton. Main raided well and crossed some good balls. The reserve Ibrox half-back line had a big share in the win. Deans is coming on, but he requires a bit of speeding up yet. McDonald used his head to advantage. Murray forced the game and was fond of a shot, which is the right thing with a half-back. Both McAulay and R Hamilton were consistently sound. Although out of his customary position, the man from America was always right in his anticipation, and he and his partner kicked accurately. Goalkeeping Hamilton had rather an easy evening. I was delighted with Wright. He might I thought have gone down to Meiklejohns scoring shot, but otherwise he was as safe and resourceful as anyone could wish. Both Allan and Bulloch were stuffy backs who gave nothing away, and Hill was strong and effective at centre half, McLuckie placed nicely. Up to a point the forwards played well enough, but they finished badly. But there was too little holding of the ball and making position. In this respect McPhail set an example. Rangers had the best of the game and deserved to win, but their poor shooting was asking for trouble. English hit the post once, but he was not getting the through pass that he likes. Still, he was not the marksman he has often shown himself
