Match Trivia

This was a good game spoiled I am certain that if the incident which led to the referee ordering Craig off had not occurred, the Rangers would not have been so eager to score the goals they did. They were two up – both registered by McMillan – when Dorrans went down inside the penalty box. It was a doubtful penalty. Craig, it seemed to me, tries to tackle Dorrans in a legitimate way and the wet ground was largely responsible for both falling. Allison shot over from the spot, and next moment Craig and the referee were seen in conversation. It lasted only a moment, and then the official pointed to the pavilion. Although I am aware of what referee and player will say what the words were that were exchanged between them – and their versions are not the same by any means – we must leave the proper people to deal with the case. Having lost a man, Rangers felt they could not afford to go easy, and within a minute or so of the penalty, Fleming finished a whirlwind combined run by scoring a third goal. The second half was nearly all Rangers, and goals were added by Pitcairn, who defected the ball past Thomson in trying to clear, Morton and Fleming two. I was sorry for Raith. Their early reverses threw them out of gear, and they never seemed to have a working plan. On the other hand, Rangers’ forwards, with Muirhead and Meiklejohn backing up superbly, had control over the heavy ball, and their speed was to much for Barton and Graham. Young Thomson was in no way to blame for the big score. He was simply helpless. Pigg was missed. Craig was sent off and Allison missed a penalty both in the first half
