Aberdeen and Rangers thrilled seventeen thousand people at Pittodrie. The points were divided, each side scoring twice. Against the run of play Rangers went ahead in the eleventh minute Hair shot and McSevich was well placed to stop the ball until it was deflected by striking Jackson. Six minutes later Cheyne trapped a ball fisted out by Hamilton and scored a lovely goal. Before that the Ibrox keeper had effected brilliant save from McDermid and Bruce. Rangers at once retaliated and regained the lead, Hair profiting by a misunderstanding in the Aberdeen defence. His shot from close range was a scorer all the way. Aberdeen strove hard to equalise and the Ibrox goal had a narrow escape - Bruce heading against an upright. Rangers didn’t deserve to be leading at the interval. Within a minute of the second half Aberdeen equalised. Edwards centre and Bruce headed into the net. From then until the finish, it was a tremendous fight. Both goalkeepers were often in action. Archibald lost two easy chances and Morton headed past when it seemed simple to score. These misses were counter-balanced by similar happenings at the other end. Bruce and Smith failed with first-rate openings. Rangers missed Cunningham. Morton scintillated in the first half, but he was held by Jackson later. Fleming was enterprising and was the best forward. Hair did the scoring. That was all, but good enough of course. Archibald and Muirhead were ordinary. Shaw and Craig shone at half-back and Gray was the best back afield. Hamilton saved the side in the closing minutes. Aberdeen changes led to improvement. McHale was splendid in the middle line, Jackson a good back, Cheyne, Smith and Bruce outstanding in the attack, and McSevich an able goalkeeper.
