Match Trivia

Fifteen minutes were left for play at Ibrox, and not a goal had been scored. It seemed as if Clydebank, with all the value that a point meant, would have held out. But what a transformation! I attribute the defeat of Clydebank to the fact that Wallace did not go for the ball which Craig scarped home for the first count. Craig diverted past the keeper the other two goals from perfect centres by Archibald and Morton. While they had much of the play and lots of chances, the Rangers did not look like scoring until late on, and before they got one home Clydebank might have counted once. Before this McCandless failed to convert a penalty kick. I don’t know who was responsible for the placing of Chalmers in the Clydebank outside-left berth, but it was apparent to me that he has not the power to get the ball across. Smith was the best Yoker forward; Fleming and Marchbank did well to stem the tide; and McKendrick is due commendation for his holding of Archibald and Cunningham. In a Rangers’ team, minus Manderson and Muirhead, Robb had practically nothing to do. I liked Reid – his speed beat Joe Anderson. Dixon was best half-back, and Cairns and Morton made up the wing that mattered. McCandless missed a penalty
