Match Trivia

Because of their finish in all they did, Rangers deserved the points at Ibrox last night; still, Albion Rovers, playing clever, dashing football at times, put up a plucky fight. And they certainly ‘enjoyed’ no luck. They were up against Robb at the top of his form. Play opened with Rangers very much on the aggressive, but on their second visit to Robb the Rovers scored. The defence got badly fankled. Robb ran out to meet Reid, and Willie actually rounded the keeper before shooting into a tenantless goal. Although the ‘Light Blues’ were chiefly the aggressors, it took them 26 minutes to get the equaliser, and then they were a trifle fortunate. Arthur Dixon tried his luck with a long drive, and the ball went spinning away from the goal. Cunningham, his back to the goal, put his right foot out to it, and Kerr got it – at the back of the net. Two minutes later the Rangers were two up, Cairns heading through after Gordon Kerr had partially saved from Cunningham. Ig the game quietened a bit in the second half it was little wonder – the first had been a scorcher. But the thrills continued to be provided in plenty at both ends of the field. Close on time Henderson, who had been having hard luck with his shotting, scored a grand goal. Albion Rovers put up a great fight. There wasn’t a weakling on the side, and if I mention Penman, Greenshields, Reid and Kirk as best, it is only because they got the opportunities to be exceptionally prominent. Rangers’ best were Robb – a great goalkeeper – McCandless, Bowie, Henderson and Cairns
