Match Trivia
Clever forward footwork by both teams was the predominating feature of the match at Ibrox, where Airdrieonians proved a stiff opposition. In the first run up by the Light Blues four minutes after the start, Cairns accepted a pass from Muirhead, who had caught up a beautiful cross from Paterson, and Fotheringham was beaten. Dazzling play by Paterson who was the bright particular star of the Ibrox vanguard, often had the visitors defence in a tangle, but McDonald and Dick both played well, and at other times were in lucks way in keeping down the score to the solitary goal of the first half. It was not till a few minutes of the interval that Fotheringham could be said to have been in queer street, when he bobbled the ball against the crossbar, but in a melee a defender cleared. Neither Jamie Reid or Henderson had got many opportunities, which probably accounted for the low scoring. The 25,000 spectators did not have long to wait for goals and thrills after the second period was entered on. In ten minutes Jamie Reid equalised with a great drive, and just by way of keeping their supporters in good humour, Cairns caught up a long pass rushed in, and beat Fotheringham. Airdrie had more shots in their locker, and no one was more surprised than Lock when in the next minute Jamie Reid with a beauty whisked the ball past him and into the net. The Light blues were soon on good terms with themselves again, when, from a well-placed corner by Archibald, Henderson headed what proved to be the winning goal of one of the fastest and best games seen at Ibrox this season. Strong defence on both sides, with McDonald and Manderson the better two, and consistently brilliant intermediate play by all six summed up these divisions of two good teams. It might be invidious to single out any of the forwards for special mention, but Paterson and James Reid were always prominent
