After a very bright ten minutes at the start of their League match with the Rangers at Rugby Park, Kilmarnock fell away in amazing fashion, and in the end were trounced by 7-1. True, they were minus McNaught and Clark for the major part of the second half, but the game was really lost and won before the interval. Rangers crossed over leading by three goals, Cunningham obtaining two and Cairns the other with a great shot. Left with nine men, Kilmarnock could do little of consequence, and the game became something of a farce. Still, after Gordon had registered a fourth goal a penalty, McHallum reduced the leeway with a fine header. But the Rangers were making the proverbial rings round the weakened opposition. Bowie got a fifth goal, and Paterson and Gordon brought the total to seven. Conspicuous on the Rangers side were Cunningham, Gordon, Bowie and Walls. Kilmarnocks outstanding trio were Higgins, Hamilton and Neave
