It would have been a prophet greatly daring who at the interval at Douglas Park would have predicted that Rangers would romp home winners by five goals to one. Rangers at half-time were goalless, while the ground side had one goal to their credit. So well did the Accies shape in the first half and so brilliantly did they open the second, that there were among the Hamilton section of the crows visions of a sensation. But the Rangers by sheer grit and magnificent football, gradually dissipated these fanciful dreams. It was a splendidly contested game up to the interval. If anything, Rangers had the pull. Ten minutes from Half-time Mathie sent across a beauty, which Thornley first caught up, but finally Stewart rushed in and applied the finishing touch, and Hempsey was beaten. In the first ten minutes of the second half Hempsey’s goal only missed downfall by sheer luck, as Stewart, Thornley and Murphy all had shots which seemed likely to get the target. Accies flattered only to deceive, and when Bowie got the equaliser it was all Govan and very little Hamilton. Goals followed quickly, and inside fifteen minutes the score read – Rangers 4; Hamilton 1. Before the finish, and when McNamee had left the field for repairs, Brown beat Mason for the fifth time. Apart from Bowie and Brown the goal getters for Rangers were Archibald (2) and Cunningham. Once the Ibrox side got on level terms there was no doubting their superiority. They were out to get goals, and these they did get to some purpose. For Rangers Hempsey, was good. Manderson was the safer of the two methodical backs. Gordon, Dixon and Walls were the trio who stemmed the tide of the Accies’ flood when it was at its strongest. Donnachie was only moderate in attack, and Brown made little headway. The pick of the forwards were Bowie, Archibald and Cunningham. For the Accies, Kerr, McNamee, Murphy, Purdie and Mathie were the pick.
