Match Trivia
In beating the Rangers, and adding a couple of points to their already respectable total, Third Lanark played their best game of the season at Ibrox. They charmed everybody by their clever play. All the goals were scored in the first half. Weir got the first, and Wilkie, with a header, the second. The Renfrew junior was the best of a good forward line, in which Bissett was at times brilliant and McLean always dangerous. Only the daring work of Lock prevented the Sheffield Wednesday centre from scoring. He tried oftener than any other, and was nearly always on the target. Not for many a day have I seen Cathkin half-backs play so well, and if I single out Isaac Walker as the best it is because he did his part so easily, and with so much judgement. Hannah put in a power of work, and against his first senior club Brown did grand service. Driver Orr, who was at his best, had a reliable partner in McCormack, and behind them Gunner Brownlie was on his best behaviour. There was nothing to find fault with in the defence of Lock, Manderson and Blair, but the half-backs were only moderate. Probably that had something to do with the weakness of the forwards, who never got a real grip of the game. Cadet Fred Gray of St Mirren, sent across some nice balls in the first half, and because of that I write him down as the most useful of a very mediocre line. There was a 15,000 crowd.
