Match Trivia
I couldn’t see much between Rangers and the Academicals at Ibrox. The Academicals were always doing well enough to please themselves, but they stopped short of looking like scorers. I believe a draw would not have shocked the ‘Light Blues.’ Pursell nodded in the first goal some minutes after the start. Craig’s plea to the referee on the ground of being nudged out of reach of the ball as he was going to save seemed to me to be justified. The second half saw Hamilton a shade more aggressive, yet still unable to bite into the Rangers’ defence, in which Manderson and Blair were terrible fellows to beat. The Ibrox forwards had to be content with periodical dashes, and in one of these, two minutes from the end, Charles Duncan was tripped, and Blair converted the penalty kick. Conditions were against accurate control of the ball, and the defences had the best of the deal. Robertson and Miller played well in front of Craig, who had no luck. The half-back play was principally a matter of breaking up, for the middle men were under the same handicap as the forwards when it came to nursing the ball. Riddell and McNamee were always doing good work
