Match Trivia
About 4000 spectators watched this game in the Inter-City mid-Week League at Tynecastle, Edinburgh yesterday. The Hearts came sooner into the game, and the opening minutes saw them force a couple of corners, which however, brought nothing in the way of goals. Later, after some give-and-take play McPherson profited by a pass forward from Thomson, and by blundering on the part of the defence, opened the scoring for Hearts. A second goal was not long delayed, for Dawson from a rather difficult position, shortly afterwards beat Gibson for a second time. An accurate centre by Wilson should have enabled McPherson to put Hearts further ahead, but the latter drove the ball past. As a result of a collision with D Currie, Montgomery had to leave the field shortly before the interval, but the Rangers battled along bravely. On resuming, the Hearts’ defence was rather shaky, but as time wore on it became more steady. About a quarter of an hour from the restart Montgomery resumed, but the Hearts were not finished, for Dawson got a third point for them with a characteristic shot. Result :- Heart of Mid-Lothian 3 goals; Rangers nothing.
