The Rugby Park club have had so few successes over the Ibrox eleven that the win of Saturday was very gratifying to their supporters. The game did not touch the standard of some previous encounters between the same teams, but that is accounted for by the Rangers having the championship safe, and also from the fact that both suffered from weak representation. Kilmarnock were first to find their feet, but had the chagrin to see the opening goal going to their opponents, Alex Smith getting across a well-timed ball for Reid to head through. The equaliser was not long delayed. Some excellent work from Kilmarnock left-wing being finished by Logan beating Farrington from a perfect centre of Templeton’s. Then Ormonde put through his own goal, giving Kilmarnock the lead. In the second half, an appeal for a palpable penalty was denied Kilmarnock, but Shortt made amends shortly after by scoring. A foul against Mitchell found the Kilmarnock defenders in two minds when the kick was taken, and Goodwin finished the scoring for the day. Farrington made a favourable appearance for the Rangers in goal, and Ormonde and Robertson did not disappoint at back. The Southampton player created a favourable impression. Gordon was the best of the half-back line, but spoiled a good display by an unfortunate display of temper. Forward the right-winger was best, Paterson and Goodwin having a fine understanding. Burnett was good and bad by turns in Kilmarnock goal. Kirkwood was much the better back, the long seasons work beginning to show itself in Mitchell’s play. Shortt improves with every game at half-back. Buchan was a most untiring workman, and is one of the best players Kilmarnock have secured this season. Templeton showed most cleverness forward, and but for a tendency to take things easy he had good help from Logan. Cully, who was making his debut for the home side, did well.
