Match Trivia
Rangers apparently had not forgotten the manner in which they were humiliated last season by Morton, as on Saturday, once they broke down what for twenty minutes was an effective and stubborn defence, they simply did as they liked. The collapse of Morton was too bad to be true, as they displayed tactics and methods that will enable them to steer clear of defeat more frequency than Saturday’s result would indicate. As a matter of fact at Cappielow, even the Rangers will find the Greenock side a difficult one to overthrow, as a team that could play as they did for twenty minutes in the first half, are capable of doing much better at home. At Ibrox they crumpled up after their opponents got the second goal and never really recovered. They were certainly much the inferior team, and it was a pity for them and the game too, that the Rangers in their mightiness were not more merciful in the matter of scoring. The ‘Light Blues’, by the wat ate thus early shaping like champions, and on Saturday’s form, a year of honours seems in store. It is, however, too risky yet to prophesy, because Clyde, Celtic, Dundee and Hearts may dispose of this idea, though we would not be surprised if they failed. The best players on Saturday were :- Rangers – Law, Gordon, Hendry, Hogg, Reid and Bennett. Morton – Bradford, Stark, May. O’Hagan and Bolton
