Match Trivia
A dry pitch made a light ball a fast game at Cappielow, and there was a strong sun and nasty cross wind. There were over 10,000 present. The visitors were without Gordon and Bennett. The opening was of the sensational order. Rangers worked down the left, and Smith crossed to Reid, who tipped the ball down the centre. It rolled to Bradford, and the keeper allowed it to run through his hands over the line. Play was soon transferred, and Lindsay drove wide. Then Bolton came into the picture, but O’Hagan’s shot from the inside-right’s pass was blocked. Smith again got off, and Bradford picked up a shot from Smith. Then Hogg drove wide for goal. Following this Gracie ran up the centre, bet sent the ball too far. Reid then got on, and hit the under corner of the bar with a strong shot, which just rebounded into play, and soon afterwards he struck the wrong side of the post. Rangers were now going strongly, but latterly the home lot broke away, and Lock had to save from Lindsay. The Ibrox team once more attacked, and Hogg forced a corner. Morton afterwards got more into the game, and a long shot by Fulton went past. Then May drove wide, after which Bolton put well across. Lock came out to save, and fell, and in the melee O’Hagan shot into the net. The play after this contained a number of keen passages. Rangers soon pressed again, and Smith passed to Bowie, who deceived Bradford with a simple-looking-shot. This advantage was maintained for some time, with Rangers doing most of the attacking. Hogg got off twice, and missed the net narrowly on each occasion. Goodwin also had chances, and might have converted, but failed. Just on the call of half-time Lindsay broke away on Morton’s left, and beautiful cross to Gracie was headed into the net. The second half was not so interesting as the first. It was hard and fast, but play was erratic, and there was more force than skill in it. Morton had the best of what was going. They netted from a corner, but the point was disallowed for Lock being impeded. Torrance got several good openings, and with care might have scored. Rangers’ front rank were playing out of gear, but Reid almost secured the leading goal with a lovely shot, which Bradford just secured. The game raged till the end, but no further scoring was done.
