Match Trivia

The Rangers were in superb form at Paisley, and latterly that had St Mirren completely played to a standstill. The home team never settled to any decent combination, and the attack was spasmodic and very ineffective. Reid opened the scoring for Rangers ten minutes after the start, and before the interval he had given his side a two-goal lead. Cunningham and Clements, between them, tried hard to even up the game, but they were badly supported. The second half saw the Rangers again take a grip of the game, and Hogg got a brilliant goal six minutes after the resumption. This was followed by another from the foot of Reid, making his own total three, and if to show they had still a little life left, McKellar got St Mirren’s first point. Before the finish McPherson and Hogg, in the order mentioned, increased the Rangers lead. There is no accounting for the complete collapse of the home team, but their defence was very easily beaten, and the half-backs were not able to hold the Rangers’ forwards, who were in rampant form. From goal out the Ibrox team played magnificently. Lock had very little to do, for Law and McKenzie were seldom beaten. The former has returned to his best form, and his clean kicking and accurate tackling were features of the game. The half-backs were nippy, and joined in the attacking work with the forwards, who were splendidly led by Reid. Alex Smith, nicely supported by McPherson, touched the top of his form, and Hogg and Miller on the right got along nicely.
