Match Trivia
Port Glasgow Athletic finished their League programme on Saturday, when they played Rangers at Ibrox before a poor attendance. The opening passages were quiet, but ultimately Rangers came away strongly. A goal by Campbell (Rangers) was given off-side, but two minutes later McDonald (Rangers) scored through Noble. As the game proceeded Rangers practically monopolised the run of play. From both wings and centre Thomson was tested, but the Port defence responded robustly. Two penalty kicks fell Rangers wat. The first was sent by Campbell right into Thomson’s hands. The second, which came along a few minutes later, was sharply netted by May. Port’s defence lacked force and finish, and half-time was called with Rangers leading by two goals to nothing. With the sun behind them and the wind almost at calm now, Port began the second half promisingly. Steel and Dunlop both had likely openings, but were unsuccessful. Rangers’ third goal came when Campbell after beating both backs, finished by netting. Shortly afterwards, Rangers were penalised, Hamilton being downed within the area. Ross took the kick and netting, but from a pass by smith, Campbell again scored. Rangers held the upper hand till the close, and won easily by 5 goals to 1
