Match Trivia

The Rangers, with a scratch forward line, earned their victory over the Hibernian, but the difference between the teams, in the vital position of centre-forward, was largely responsible for their success. Peggie seemed out of form, and was far from his best in the outfield, and at close quarters. Campbell on the other hand, was cool and decisive in front of goal, and had all three goals. The Rangers right wing impressed most, especially in the first half. Gordon backed it up well, and Noble proved himself a valuable man at outside right. He has good speed and his centring was beautifully accurate. The left wing was more uncertain, but gave a good display. The half-backs however gave their forwards every assistance, both Gordon and May showing up well; especially the latter who was in magnificent form. Craig played on the whole a good game, and Newbigging made some splendid saves. Rennie was in good form, as usual, but Grieve who took Main’s place, missed his kick too often. The forwards did well enough up to a certain point. Callaghan, who worked hard, was outstanding
