Match Trivia
On Hampden Park, Glasgow estimated attendance 73,000. Drawings (gate and stands) £1914. Both the attendance and drawings were in excess of the previous best for any game with the admission of sixpence. After the teams had settled down the Celtic were first aggressive, McArthur put a strong shot by Bennett over the bar, and from the corner kick, after a scrimmage Bennett scored close in. Although the Rangers improved, Celtic were still the most dangerous side, the Rangers backs and McArthur being kept in full imploment. Half way through the first portion, the Rangers half-backs improved wonderfully, and from their strong lead the game was ultimately equalised. McNair managed to hand out a shot from Kyle, but immediately afterwards Campbell, although fully ten yards offside was allowed to go on, and the centre forward defeated Adams. Half-time one goal each. The opening of the second half again saw the Celtic the more promented lot. Five minutes after resuming Hamilton got past Jackson, and centring allowed Quinn to head the ball past McArthur. Practically this was the only occasion in the second half when the Celtic proved themselves superior. The Rangers milled in magnificent style maintaining a splendid pace throughout, and ultimately with twenty minutes still to play Smith again put the teams level. From this to the finish the game went strongly in favour of the Rangers, their forward play, however only serving to bring out the fine defence of the Celts, and the game finished without further scoring.
