Match Trivia

This match was played at Ibrox Park, before almost 5000 spectators. In spite of the treacherous conditions of the pitch, the visitors played good football, and the Rangers defence was early called upon, Newbigging brought off several good saves. Dickie, Campbell and Smith led on the home forwards splendidly, but the inside wing players gave them little support, and Brownlie and Davie had little trouble in clearing their lines. From a determined attack on Newbigging’s goal the Academicals scored, Atkinson getting the better of Newbigging. Till halftime the visitors gave the better display, and the Rangers failed to equalise. Halftime – Hamilton Academicals 1 goal: Rangers 0. The Rangers attacked oftener and with more determination in the second half than they had done in the first. Three times in quick succession Edmonds had to clear. Newbigging got less to do in this half, although Craig made numerous slips. Near the close the Rangers strove hard for the equaliser, but without success. Result – Hamilton Academicals 1 goal: Rangers 0. Drawings £114 6s 3d
