The Hibernian kicked off against the wind, but had to defend an attack by the Rangers, which however was of a scrambling nature, till Stark with a long drive gave McNeill his first bit of work. The new goalkeeper saved and then the Hibernian got to the other end, where Fitzpatrick had a grand chance, but failed to shoot in time. A breakaway by the Rangers right produced some sturdy work from Harrower, and with Duguid’s assistance he cleared to McConnachie, who shot past. The Hibernian left wing continued to be troublesome to the Rangers defence Callaghan beating Hendry close in, lifted overt the bar. Getting possession Findlay passed well out to Callaghan, who returned nicely to his support, and the opening goal went on with an unsaveable shot. Halftime – Hibernian one goal, Rangers nothing. On resuming the Rangers forced a corner, and with the strong wind in their favour the continued to press. Main unfortunately handled in the penalty area, Kyle who took the kick equalised. The Hibernian made a game reply, but Harrower failed to pass when he intended, the ball being stopped by May, who sent across to Smith. The left-winger shot struck the crossbar and dropped down, McFie sending it easily into the net. Following this the Rangers made matters warm for the Hibernian, and latterly swarmed their goal, May shot at goal, but the wind curled the ball across to Smith who beat Main and scored a third goal.
