Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox before about 10,000 spectators. Play in the first half was of an interesting description, both goals being assailed in turn, but owing to weak shooting the goalkeepers had little difficulty in keeping their lines clear. After half an hour’s play McFie opened the scoring from a centre by A Smith, who had worked his way from midfield past all opposition. Towards the interval Hearts had more of the lat, but they failed to beat Newbigging. Halftime – Rangers 1 goal: Hearts 0. There was little to choose between the teams in the second half, the Rangers being perhaps better in attack, but the Hearts defence stood up well. Henry had a fine try early in the game, and Walker passed an open goal shortly after a feat, which Kivlichan emulated later on. Walker had not done much for a time, but a fine bit of heavy work by him led to the equaliser. After drawing the Rangers defence after him he gave to Cooper, who slung across in front of goal, and Thomson had only Newbigging to beat, which he did easily. Hearts were the better team in the closing stages. Result – Rangers 1: Hearts 1. Gate money £250; stands £30
