Match Trivia
Played at Hampden Park, Mount Florida, before 28,000, the weather was of the best description, brilliant sunshine being tempered by a nice breeze. The teams were strongly represented the amateurs having the assistance of AF Currie (Airdrieonians) and TT Fitchie (Woolwich Arsenal). The game turned out a very fast and exciting one. The first forty-five minutes proved the hardest, going being very even. Although the Rangers played with the sun, and wind at their back, they has not the preponderance of play that was expected. Newbigging got more to do than Adam and both kept a capital goal. In the second half the game slackened off a little, but was even more interesting owing to the nature of the scoring. Rangers led off with a well-taken goal by Spiers, while Riley for the Queen’s equalised with a long high shot about five minutes later. The exchanges continued fast and exciting and Rangers again took the lead, Kyle scoring as the result of a free kick. Within two minutes the scores were again level, Jackson of the Rangers giving away a penalty, which Richmond converted. No further scoring took place, one of the best games witnessed on Hampden, or even in the city, for some time ended in a level draw. Drawings – Gates £616 19s; stands £90; total £706 19s
