Close on 10,000 spectators were at Ibrox Park, the playing pitch of which was very greasy owing to the heavy rain, which fell before and during the game. Comrie kicked off and Johnstone getting possession of the ball centred to Comrie who headed towards goal. Sinclair cleared and the home team took up the attack. The Third defended well, but Kyle from a fine cross by Smith drove for goal with such force that Raeside, who attempted to kick clear, was beaten. Not long after the Rangers were awarded a penalty kick, and Kyle again got the better of Raeside. The Third by long driving ahead, soon found themselves in close proximity to Sinclair, and Johnstone slipping between Walker and Craig scored. Play after this was fairly even till halftime. Haltime – Rangers 2 goals: Third Lanark 1. The Third altered their tactics in the second half, and in two minutes Johnstone had equalised the game. Continuing to force the pace the visitors after a scramble during which Sinclair saved put on the leading goal, Wilson being the scorers. The Rangers played with desperation to get on an equality, but in vain, and Johnstone accepting a forward pass dribbled ahead, stalled off Craig, and Sinclair was well beaten close on time.
