Match Trivia
This First League game took place at Port Glasgow on Saturday before an attendance of slightly more than 3000. The Port men kicked off in a heavy downpour of rain, Rangers immediately at Ward’s end, but the home custodian saved cleverly. Sinclair a minute or two later had difficulty with a shot sent in by O’Brien. Spiers broke away and crossed to Kyle who opened by scoring early in the game. Graham for Port was doing good work, and had a raid into Rangers territory, but missed narrowly. Graham shortly after equalised. Off a corner Stark headed in another for Rangers. O’Brien had a fine opportunity at Sinclair’s end, but again shot past. Hamilton got another through a few minutes later. Interesting play continued in a steady downpour of rain, but they was no further scoring and at halftime the score was – Rangers 3: Port Glasgow 1. The restart despite the gloomy weather conditions was brisk, and Pot on several occasions looked like scoring, but Sinclair and their own bad finishing ensured a lead for Rangers. As the result of a foul Rangers added a fourth, Robertson missed, and gave Spiers every chance, Ward being easily beat. Little interest was evinced in the lay after Rangers had increased their lead to three, but the home team continued to attack vigorously. There was no further scoring and the final result was – Port Glasgow 1: Rangers 4. The visitor’s goals were easily secured and the result hardly indicated the state of play. Port at outfield were a vigorous lot, but their finishing was as usual, not strong enough
