At Cathkin Park in glorious weather before 12,000 spectators. With a refulgent sun in their faces it was thought Rangers had a stiff obstacle to contend with, and so it proved for while the Third were admittedly the better team it was principally through the radiant factor that they lost two goals scored by McKenzie and Munro. Alex Smith and Kyle had some brilliantly combined runs this half, the former sending across some fine centres, which only McFie’s want of height failed to convert. The real strength of the Third’s team lay in their halves, where Comrie, Sloan and Neilson displayed excellent tackling and feeding. The second half was a peculiar one. Rangers opening with rare dash, and for the first twenty minutes they kept the Third defending their goal, yet as often happens the unexpected occurred, and when Johnstone broke away and scored making the game as this stage 3-0 the Rangers might well have been excused if they lost heart. But that misfortune only spurred them on, and with a minute Speirs scored their first goal from a fine centre by Smith. From this to the end the Rangers pressed, but luck was against them, and the Warriors retired winners by 3 goals to 1
