Match Trivia

The opening League Match of the season was played on Ibrox Park on Saturday before about 10,000 spectators. The Rangers played with the wind at their backs in the first half, and play was for a time very even, the visitors showing splendid combination and a good deal of dash. From a penalty for handling McColl scored for Rangers, and shortly afterwards Hamilton added a second from a corner. Kilmarnock played up against these odds pluckily, and from a scrimmage the ball was sent past Sinclair. Halftime score – Rangers 2 goals: Kilmarnock 1. Early in the second half Graham beat Sinclair, but the point was disallowed, and for a time Rangers held the upper hand, Hamilton scoring a fine goal from close range. Accidences to Fraser and Gourlay upset Rangers defence, and when the former retired the one-back game was adopted. Good work by Kilmarnock right pair had its reward in a cleverly taken goal, which Sinclair was powerless to save. Result – Rangers 3 goals: Kilmarnock 2
