Match Trivia
The weather was favourable to this return League fixture, albeit the wind was a bit strong. Ibrox Park was the venue and the turf had a capital footing. The absent players were Hamilton and McColl, Rangers and McKenzie, Third Lanark. The Third lost the toss and kicked off, but immediately the Rangers got close to Raeside, whose save was a brilliant one. Munro and Wilson with a pretty run, got within shooting distance, Sinclair turning out the shot. All the Rangers forwards were seen to advantage, and they took full liberty of the half-gale that prevailed. With the exception of an occasional look in by the Third the home team had all the game this half, yet for nearly half an hour the Third’s defenders, who played grandly, kept their opponents at bay. Kyle was first to fins the net with a good shot, and the same player and A Smith quickly followed with tow more goals, the score at halftime being – Rangers 3 goals: Third Lanark 0. The Third made a good start this moiety, but they were thwarted by N Smith, Stark next gave the ball to Speedie, whose close range shot was marvellously saved by Raeside. Following this incident the Third pressed for a considerable time, and Neilson scored from a penalty kick. Continuing to press severly the Third tested Sinclair to the full. The visitors shooting left little to be desired, and at times they were unlucky. Four corners fell to them quickly, but they were not improved upon. Rangers latterly improved, but Raeside cleared, and on eve of time the Third forced two corners that brought no reward. Result – Rangers 3 goals: Third Lanark 1 goal. Gate and stands £275
