Match Trivia
Played on Ibrox Park before 30,000 spectators. Third Lanark kicked off, but their progress was soon checked, and the Rangers forwards commenced a series of well-concerted runs on goal, but showing a great lack of head in shooting, Hamilton, Smith and Kyle all missing fairly easy openings. McKenzie led the rushes of Third Lanark time after time, and sent across some fine crosses to Cole, who never had a decent shot to trouble Allan. From a throw-in Mackie got possession and drove across to the left, where McColl gave to Smith, who shot across the goalmouth where Hamilton cutely slipped the ball pas Raeside. Third Lark worked hard for the equaliser, but indifferent shooting and a sound defence combined to keep them out. Just on the call of halftime A Smith broke away, and with a long oblique shot scored a second goal. Halftime result – Rangers 2: Third Lanark 0. Play in the second half was more even than in the first, but the Rangers overdid the fancy work, and never looked like scoring the frequent rushes by their opponents showing much more determination, but luck was dead against them, and no opening could be found. McColl had a race through from midfield, and in the most brilliant fashion he eluded backs and goalkeeper and scored a third goal, which was vociferously cheered. Play became very rough after this, both sides showing a preference for unfair tactics, which completely spoiled the game; but such matters as Campbell, Wilson, Mackie and Speedie provided some interesting work, but no further scoring took place.
