Match Trivia
There were fully 65,000 spectators at Hampden Park where the cup holders and Celtic met to settle the destiny of the cup for the ensuring year. The weather cleared up before the start of the game. The field was in magnificent order, notwithstanding the drenching to which it had lately been subjected. The Celtic pressed at the outset, but once the Rangers got set a going, their forwards monopolised the attack, Speedie opened the scoring, and ere many minutes had gone he again beat Adams. Continuing to play very aggressively the Ibrox forwards all but added another goal to their total, the ball just taking the wrong side of the post. The Celts gradually pulled themselves together and Quinn who showed great dash twice beat Watson with unsaveable shots. Play was evenly divided from now till the interval. Halftime – 2 goals each. In the second half the Celts at once assumed the upper had, and the Rangers defence had a trying time. After 35 minutes play Quinn again distinguished himself by added yet another goal. The Rangers had occasionally made dangerous raids on Adams but they found the Celtic defence too strong at close quarters. The Rangers backs wavered and Watson had to bring off some good saves to keep his charge intact. The Celts pressed to the finish. Save for intermittent runs by their opponenets all through it was a splendid game. Result – Celtic 3 goals: Rangers 2 goals. The gate money amounted to £1400 and the stands and enclosures to £400, total £1800.
