The conquerors of the Heart of Midlothian in the first round of the national trophy met the Hibernian in the second tie at Easter Road, Edinburgh before 18,000 spectators. The Rangers were the first to take up the running and Speedie had a try, which went wide, while at the other end a shot from Stewart met the same fate. The Rangers were doing most of the pressing, and following a corner the ball came to Mackie who drove hard in giving Rennie little chance to save the ball landing in the corner of the net. The Rangers were now full of cofindence and attacked with the greatest determination, but the defence proved very sound. The Light Blues however were going too strong, and within another five minutes Walker had Rennie beaten for a second time. After these reverses the Hibernian made great efforts to reduce the lead and twice they had what was practically a gift of a goal, but Watson prevented disater, and at the interval the score was – Rangers 2 goals: Hibernian 0. On resuming the Hibernian started with great determination, and the game for a considerable time settled down in the region of the Rangers goal, and it was only smart saving by Watson, which prevented the home team from scoring. Following some even play, in which both goals were visited in turn, the Hibernian again took to the attack, and fairly dombarded Watson’s charge, but get the ball through they could not. At length Breslin placed a nice ball in the goalmouth and Divers getting his head in, sent the ball into the net. Until the finish the Hibernian fairly rushed the Rangers, but equalise they could not. Result – Rangers 2 goals: Hibernian 1
