At Port Glasgow in wet weather, four thousand spectators were present. In the first portion a very interesting struggle was witnessed. Both goals were frequently placed in danger, and the two goalkeepers showed brilliant form. Fifteen minutes after the opening Mackie scored for Rangers. Port then attacked and were awarded a penalty against Drummond for handling. Bolton converting. From this on to the interval the contest was evenly waged. On resuming the Athletic kept play for nearly half an hour almost wholly in the Rangers half. Indeed during this period the visitors forwards and halves seemed quite unable to do anything right. The result of this was that the bulk of the work fell on Watson and Drummond, who both did splendid service. Towards the close Rangers improved, and in the last few minutes A Smith from a pass by Hamilton had a great opportunity of giving his side the victory but with the gal empty, and he close in he lifted the ball high over the bar. The result was a draw of 1 goal each. Port Glasgow played a strong bustling game, while only once or twice did Rangers give a glimpse of their best form. The ground was very greasy
