Match Trivia
At Ibrox Park, Govan in fine weather before 300 spectators. The Rangers started play, but Motherwell at once surprised everybody by the strength of their attack, a little steadiness being all that was lacking, although Watson stopped a fast grounder from Main. The Rangers retaliated, and Hartley, Hamilton and Mackie each shot unsuccessfully. It was now the turn of the visitors to press, Sommen and McMurray leading a promising raid of the forwards. Watson cleared the latter’s shot, and for a time the home backs were kept busy. Hamilton now emerged with the ball at his foot, and beating all opposition, scored the opening goal – a fine performance. Hartley was working hard, and repeatedly placed the visitors goal in jeopardy. Motherwell continued to play in surprising fashion, but were unfortunate at close quarters. Halftime – Rangers 1: Motherwell 0. On restarting the Rangers showed to better advantage, and for a time completely hemmed in their opponents. From good work by Hamilton, Mackie scored a second goal, but this only served to spur on Motherwell, who were standing the game well, and forcing matters as well at times. The superior methods of the Rangers however prevailed, and Mackie again scored with an unsaveable shot. Result – Rangers 3: Motherwell 0. Total drawings £74 4s 3d
