Match Trivia
These teams met on Ibrox Park before about 8000 spectators. Starting the game the Rangers were early seen to advantage, and right away Rennie’s charge ran a narrow escape from A Smith, whose shot struck the upright and rebounded to Walker, who shot wide. During the first 20 minutes the Rangers continued to have matters almost all their own way in the open, but Rennie, Gray and Glen were unbeatable, and they failed to score. At last the Hibs managed to drive them back, and closing in on Watson, Reis netted the ball while the Rangers defence stood idly by claiming a free kick for Divers handling. Referee however, allowed the point. On crossing over a goal down the Rangers soon showed that they meant the equaliser, but so well did the Hibs defend that 20 minutes had gone ere Hamilton sent the ball past Rennie from one of Smith’s cross passes. Thereafter the Hibs showed improved form, and the game continued even to the end. Result – Rangers 1: Hibs 1. The gate amounted to £183 9s 9d; and with £33 7s 9d at stands made a total of £216 17s 6d
