Match Trivia

The First League game between these clubs took place at Cappielow Park, Greenock on Saturday before 7000 spectators. At the opening Rangers pressed for a time, but good play by Brown and Orr kept them from scoring, Campbell showed some tricky play, and from some of his cross passes Hamilton ought to have scored. Morton returned pluckily, and good hard kicking by the halves gave the forwards several opportunities, which by their excitement in front of goal, were thrown away. Drummond fouled Clegg, and from the resulting free kick Glegg scored. Morton led at halftime by 1 goal to 0. Ranger’s forwards were livelier on the restart, and obtained a goal, Hamilton heading a nice slanting shot from the left. This was followed by another by Speedie. From this till the finish the home team played hard, and frequently had hard lines. McPherson scored a very simple goal close on time. A hard exciting game ended – Rangers 3 goals: Morton 1 goal.
