Match Trivia

This important game was decided at Parkhead in wretched weather, rain falling incessantly. The attendance was very poor in consequence, and the amount drawn at the gate was only £230, and stands £150. The Celtic settled down at once, and showed splendid footwork on the treacherous surface. Findlay cleverly beat Gibson and Smith, but McMahon failed to catch up the cross and missed a splendid opening. At the other end A Smith had an even better chance, and shot past. Findlay was in great form, and it was due to him that the Celts opened the scoring. For the remainder of this half the home team had much the best of matters, but failed to add to their score, though Dickie saving was not so decisive as usual. The Rangers began the second half with great dash, and Campbell equalised after Hamilton had thrice broken through. The play of the home team improved after this, and after several missed by Campbell that player with a splendid long shot beat Dickie. A faulty gave by the latter player gave Findlay an open goal, but this time the old Rentonian cleared splendidly. Near the finish the visitors strove desperately to equalise, but Russell, Davidson and Battles held them safe. The light blues played far below their usual form, their greatest weakness being at halfback. The Celts were easily the better team and deserved to win by a greater margin. Result – Celtic 2 goals: Rangers 1 goal.
