Match Trivia
The return League match between these clubs took place on Ibrox Park before about 6000 spectators. With the aid of the wind the visitors made a very good appearance early in the game, Dickie was called upon and his first two saves were so faulty as almost to give away goals. Clever forward play by Hamilton, Campbell and Smith enabled the ground team to test Phillips frequently. From a corner nicely taken by Campbell, A smith beat Phillips. The visitors vainly strove to get on equality, and but for the erratic play of their forwards in front of Dickie they scored. At halftime the ground team was leading by 1 goal to 0. The first ten minutes of the second half were remarkable for the sustained attack of the Hearts, who frequently called upon Dickie to save. Walker and Baird especially driving the ball for goal with unerring accuracy. Gradually the Rangers play improved, and they more than once just failed to add to their score. The Rangers played most disappointingly, the forwards particularly so while the Hearts gave a most spirited display and would not have been over rewarded with a draw. Result – Rangers 1 goal: Hearts 0 goals. The gate amounted to £147 6s 6d: stands £38 2s 3d; total £185 8s 9d.
